More than 700 languages are spoken in Indonesia. Most of these languages belong to the Austronesian language family with a few Papuan languages spoken as well. The official language is Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia), which is used in commerce, administration, education and the media, yet many other Indonesians speak other languages like Javanease as their first language. There are misunderstandings on whether some of these languages should be considered as a language or a dialect because most have similarities, but are not comprehensible the same way.  In 2009, there were 726 languages spoken across Indonesia which makes it the largest multilingual population in the world after Papua New Guinea.

Bahasa Indonesia translation from English:

English: Hi, how are you?

Bahasa Indonesia: Hai, bagaimana keadaanmu?
